Overview/Introduction
SLAM users having a SLAM-issued PC can be set up for Direct Access (“DA”) use. DA allows a secure tunnel by which users can work without need for/or in addition to LogMeIn and other, similar tools. A reliable connection also is predicated on a good Wi-Fi connection with Internet access from the remote location. Once permissions are set by IT for the device to utilize this functionality the interaction with shares is expected to be seamless.
Details
To check your DA access: (1) click in the system tray of your Windows 10 machine (the area near the clock) and if the Wi-Fi connection doesn’t show, click the up arrow to see the icon shown below. Left-click on this Wi-Fi icon (2).

Next, look for Slam Remote Connection at the top of the subsequent menu. If it is not there, contact IT (again, if you are using a SLAM-owned device). If it does, it should say “Connected”.

If disconnected, you may need to log off and back on, or you can click there to attempt to manually connect DA (this behavior is managed centrally so it may need a jump start… logging off and back on will do this too).

After this, see if your network drives, etc. appear as if you were on the SLAM premises.
